And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

 Hebrews 10:24-25

The friendship factor is the most important and influential factor in the church growth mix. Relationships are best developed through smaller relational groups, making the small group an important ingredient in the church growth mix.


Every small group will eventually close itself off, which we call saturation.The saturation point can be caused by a variety of factors, but the largest factor is time. For this reason, one of the most powerful strategies for the health and growth of your small groups is starting new groups (or classes) on a regular basis. One of every five groups should have been added within the last 24 months.


Starting new groups or classes contributes to church growth by:


The typical declining or plateaued Sunday School averages only 35 - 45 % of those enrolled actually attending. This number should be about 70%.


The low participation level is a symptom of one or more of the following problems:


The enlistment of team members requires several things:


Enlistment of workers should be done one on one, not from the pulpit.

Prayerful consideration is the most important step in building a successful leadership team. Pay special attention to qualities, experience and spiritual gifts that would be needed to fit the job description.
